That constant has been the Pope, The Vicar of Christ on Earth, who, seated on the Throne of Peter, leads Christ's flock on Earth. John Paul II accomplished great things during his long 26 year reign. Much has already been written about his legacy, much more will undoubtedly be written. I will restrain myself from doing so here, except to say his legacy is best reflected in the words and actions of the clergy and the pilgrims who flocked to his funeral. Particularly noteworthy was the Homily given by Cardinal Ratzinger and the spontaneous public acclaimations of "maxxus", "Giovanni Paolo Santo" and "Santo Subito". Soon, a new Shepherd will be elected. Until then, let us all mourn the passing of John Paul the Great and pray for the Conclave of Cardinals who must, filled with the Holy Spirit, elect a new Pope.
