THE SOAPBOX

The election is over and we Americans have a voted Mr. Bush in for a second term. No surprise really, as historically we Americans both disdain change at the highest offices of our government and also have never elected a challenger over an incumbent in wartime.

So now the war of ideas is over. I commend both parties for operating relatively clean, tasteful campaigns, but nonetheless vigorous and hard-fought campaigns. I must also congragulate Senator Kerry for his graciousness and passionate plea for unity in our country during his concession speech. For truly, this speech and all the other concession speaches in the past are one of the defining characteristics of our uniquely American style of democracy.

We Americans take this for granted but in other parts of the world it is viewed with amazement, disbelief or contempt. But we are fundamentally a Christian country, a country with faith and morals in a loving and forgiving God. We have always been a hopeful people, looking forward, always towards a better and brighter future. That is how we will now unite again, singular as a Nation, with clear purpose, determination and fortitude to make a better world for ourselves and everyone else who inhabit our little blue marble in space.

As a country, that is how we behave. We reach out to our opponent after battle and unite as one again. In the interest of our great nation. So too, we have always helped our fallen enemies grow into vigourous, free economies. Reaching out to the hopes and aspirations of their people to be free to pursue life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. As we have now started to do in Iraq.

This is what will win the war on terror. It is also what terrifies the Islamists the most. An Islamic Democracry, with constitutional freedoms, representative government and a vigorous economy. It also strikes fear into the radical groups and oppressive states in the region. All of whom support Islamist terrorists to some degree or another. Terrifing the terrorists. That has such a nice sound to it, doesn't it?

The peace-loving people of Iraq will soon have their votes counted. Then, I expect the freely elected government of Iraq to declare open season on Islamists and terrorists soon after ratifying a constitution which secures the basic rights of freedom of speech and religion and due process. But between now and then the Islamists and terrorists should feel free to enter Iraq at any time. I am sure the US Marines and the Army infantry will tell you that it's much easier hunting when the quarry is bunched up in one place.

This is a fight to the death, something as Americans, with our Christian background, have difficulty dealing with. To win we must kill, but killing is bad isn't it? But kill or be killed, for it is war to the death. It is fundamentally an idological war, a war which takes a warped and tristed Wahabi version of Islam and incites hatred and violence against all western economies and their Christian values. It is a war of ideas turned to violence. It is behavior that is un-American. Imagine John Kerry calling on supporters to arm themselves and go out and kill all Republicians. I can't no matter how hard I try.

My fellow Americans, it doesn't t matter who is President because they have sworn to kill us all, as Osama Bin Laden's latest video, a terrorist act itself, clearly revealed once again. We have once again shown the world how a war of ideas is fought and once over how the victor and vanquished should act. But if our enemies insist on violence we should demonstrate empirically once again the definition of overwhelming force.

The Federal Reserve is nicking up interest rates, the surest sign that the economy is going well. Worldwide demand for raw materials remains high and the world economy is quite hot. Prices have already began their rise, in some cases spiking sharply. Here in the United States deficit spending and the National Debt are genuine concerns but in both a soft economy and a war economy they are appropriate behaviors for governments.

To improve profits buy high quality surplus materials. Buying lower cost materials is the most leveraged means to improve profitability. Better than cutting labor and overhead costs. Better than increasing sales. So browse our site, check the listings and find an item you need. We'll save you money and improve your profits!

Six retired Floridians were playing poker in the condo clubhouse, when Johnson lost $500 on a single hand! He clutched his chest and dropped dead at the table. Showing respect for their fallen comrade, the other five continued playing standing up.

Finkelstein looked around and asked, "So, who's gonna' tell his wife?" They drew straws and Miller picked the short one. They told him to be discreet, be gentle, don't make a bad situation any worse.

Discreet? I'm the most discreet person you'll ever meet. Discretion is my middle name, leave it to me!"

Miller went over to the Johnson's condo, and knocked on the door. The wife answered and asked what he wanted. Miller declared: "Your husband just lost $500 playing poker, and is afraid to come home."

Tell him to drop dead!" said the wife.

A man is struck by a bus on a busy street in New York City. He lies dying on the sidewalk as a crowd of spectators gathers around. "A priest! Somebody get me a priest!" the man gasps. A policeman checks the crowd but finds no priest, no minister, no man of the ckoth of any kind,

"A PRIEST, PLEASE!" the dying man says again. Then out of the crowd steps a little old Jewish man of at least eighty years of age.

"Mr. Policeman," says the man, "I'm not a priest. I'm not even a Catholic. But for fifty years now I've been living behind St. Mary's Catholic Church on Third Avenue, and every Friday night I listen to the Catholic litany. Maybe I can be of some comfort to this man."

The policeman agrees and brings the octogenarian over to where the dying man lay. He kneels down, leans over the injured man, and says in a solemn voice:

"B - 4. I - 19. N - 38. G - 54. O - 72."

Two doctors and an HMO manager died and lined up at the pearly gates for admission to heaven. St. Peter asked them to identify themselves. One doctor stepped forward and said, "I was a pediatric spine surgeon and helped kids overcome their deformities."

St. Peter said, "You may enter."

The second doctor said, "I was a psychiatrist. I helped people rehabilitate themselves into functioning, happy people." St. Peter also invited him in.

The third applicant was trembling slightly, but stepped forward and said, "I was an HMO manager and I helped people get cost-effective health care."

St. Peter said, "You can come in too," and the HMO manager looked visibly relieved.

And as he walked through the gate, St. Peter quietly added, "But you can only stay three days. After that you can go to hell."
