The Ansari X-prize has been won. There is new promise for cheap access to space and this nascent technology, privately funded and cleverly marketed, has won the prize on a day (October 4) that will remain a milestone of flight. It was 47 years ago on this date man first orbited an artificial object around the earth.

I?d like to put this in perspective for a moment. Only slightly over 100 years ago another privately funded venture first perfected powered flight. NASA spends billions annually to launch about 6 manned flights per year and has never launched the same vehicle in a two week span.

History will no doubt mark this day as a milestone day of what will likely be termed the ?second golden age of aviation?. On this date, Rutan , for a reported mere $20 million, has for the third time broken the accepted threshold altitude of space. For the second time in less than a week, the successful criteria to win the X-prize, Spaceship One has flown in excess of 100 kilometers, about 62.5 miles in altitude above the earth.

Already, the next step has been announced. Richard Branson is licensing the technology with intentions of conducting regular, passenger-carrying and fare paying service to the fringes of space.

Now I have a question for Bert Rutan. How much would it cost to scale-up the program to enable a vehicle to deliver three persons (plus the pilot) to the International Space Station, typically not more than 240 miles in altitude?

This is because the ISS is really the jumping off point to outer space and the platform from which real space and weightless research must be conducted. Conducted by humans, supplied and staffed cheaply. The ISS is the place where Rutan really needs to go. NASA, are you listening?

The quadrennial silly-season is really on us and with about a month to go the trajectory of this campaign season?s war of ideas and words will resemble Spaceship One?s, with apogee on November 2.

There are really but a few crucial issues that divide us as a nation, a fact the first Presidental Election Debate demonstrated, to me at least. Our American National forefathers called on God, the God of Abraham and Isaac and the Heavenly Father of Jesus Christ to bless our land. In the Declaration of Independence they stated:

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. --That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed

Here then, for me, is the defining issue, with almost all the other dividing issues derived from it. God is methodically being banished from our National consciousness. Calling upon Him, recognizing Him or praying to Him in public places is becoming virtually a criminal act. This is a case of liberal secular relativism gone utterly and insanely wrong. God has always been our Nation?s moral compass. Ban God from public places and watch chaos and anarchy, the twin allies of evil, begin their rule. We are on this path and it should be your primary consideration when choosing your candidate that you choose the one who most embraces God in their life, both public and private.

Our President needs Divine guidance in making decisions that will affect our nation and indeed the whole world during his term in office. For we remain the most powerful nation on God?s green earth. Before making your decision, especially just before marking the ballot, please pray for your own Divine guidance. Pray that we remain ?one Nation, under God, with Liberty and Justice for all?. Then do your duty, Citizen, and mark that ballot for who you think is best for our great Nation Under God.

The Federal Reserve is nicking up interest rates, the surest sign that the economy is going well. Worldwide demand for raw materials remains high and the world economy is quite hot. You know what comes next, sooner or later. Here in the United States deficit spending and the National Debt are genuine concerns but in both a soft economy and a war economy they are appropriate behaviors for governments.

To improve profits buy high quality surplus materials. Buying lower cost materials is the most leveraged means to improve profitability. Better than cutting labor and overhead costs.
