THE SOAPBOX

I recently received a rant from a respected (by me at least) professional acquaintaince. Admittedly, this resonated with me because it touches on many themes I myself rant about here in the "Soapbox". With the kind permission of the author I am publishing the piece here. Thanks MB. It goes like this:

As my guru and sahib J.V.I. once said, "Every four years, the USA changes."

November 2, 2004 will be a tipping point, a watershed, in the history of the civilization of species Homo sapiens.

For on that day, a few dozen millions of free men and women, people who actually give a damn about humanity and this world, will march to the polls and cast their vote. The fate of the world will be decided on that day, decided by the American electorate. All six billion souls on planet Earth will be affected by the decision of these few; and thousands of years of human civilization will be redirected, for better or for worse, by the outcome of this election.

I cannot overemphasize the importance of every single vote! If you are an American, with the franchise to vote, you are obliged to cast your vote on this first Tuesday in November. You must do this- it is your obligation as an American, your obligation as a member of our civilization, your obligation as a human being, and your obligation to the Supreme Power of the Universe.

Never mind if the outcome is foreordained. Never mind any other arguments or excuses. It is such a simple thing to do; and so very, very much hangs in the balance- especially this year- that in failing to do so, you would forsake your right to be a member of our society.

Perhaps I sound harsh here. But I speak what I see as truth. Allowing the minority to select the leadership of our civilization, especially in these critical times, is downright sinful, an affront to our Creator. He gave us a brain, and expects us to use it.

And even atheists must agree that failing to choose is a choice in itself, and most often, a poor choice.

Over the years, I have never suggested who to vote for in a message like this; only the importance of voting, and offering nonpartisan resources to assist in this decision. Here is one such resource:

http://www.campaignsearch.com/

I challenge you to learn all you can about the candidates' ethos, beliefs, and positions on critical issues before the election. and to be at the polls on November 2, 2004.

I ask you to vote with your conscience, vote with your soul, vote with your mind, vote for humanity, vote for the future Peace and Goodwill amongst Men. I ask you to forsake your wallet when voting, as Money and Profit are not the correct reasons to choose the leadership of our civilization in these critical times.

The future of Mankind rests in your hands. Do not forsake your children, or your children's children, by not casting your informed vote.

-MB

To this I would like to add a link to another site that I recommend reading and contemplating upon as you consider how you will vote in the upcoming election. That site is:

Don Juan calls work and says, "Hey, boss I not come work today, I really sick. I got headache, stomach ache and my legs hurt. I not come work."

The boss says, "You know Don Juan, I really need you today. When I feel like this I go to my wife and tell her to give me sex. That makes me feel better and I can go to work. You should try that."

Two hours later Don Juan calls again, "Boss, I do what you say and I feel great. I be at work soon. You got nice house.

A A young preacher was asked by the local funeral director to hold a grave-side burial service at a small local cemetery for someone with no family or friends. The preacher started early but quickly got himself lost, making several wrong turns. Eventually, a half-hour late, he saw a backhoe and its crew, but the hearse was nowhere in sight, and the workmen were eating lunch.

The diligent young pastor went to the open grave and found the vault lid already in place.

Taking out his book, he read the service. Feeling guilty because of his tardiness, he preached an impassioned and lengthy service, sending the deceased to the great beyond in style.

As he was returning to his car, he overheard one of the workmen say: "I've been putting in septic tanks for twenty years and I ain't never seen nothin' like that."
